Story talk
Mar. 2nd, 2011 12:57 pmLast fall, and again recently, I read The Lady Who Plucked Red Flowers beneath the Queen’s Window, a novella by Rachel Swirsky. It was linked from here, where there's some discussion.
I liked it very much - the surprising looks into different cultures, the magic - but feel I didn't get it, somehow. For instance, people in the discussion above refer to the narrator as an unreliable narrator, and I don't see that. And should we like her? Look down on her for her prejudices? Just enjoy the story? That's the kind of thing I'm wondering about not getting.
Has anybody else read it and want to discuss?
